We have started a penny drive where kids can bring in their loose change. So far we have over $500 in two months, so that's pretty good.

The biggest change is the kids get so much more respect, ... In 1983, kids who were not real athletic or big could get by. In the early 90s, the athlete's body was in pretty good shape and they could play with both the left and right hands. The kids took pride in their game. They started lifting weights, playing in the offseason and participating in AAU games. I had 6-foot-6 and 6-foot-5 centers.

One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.

It's all about timing and scheduling of the teams, ... It costs a pretty penny to do, but we look at it as trying to bring quality entertainment to the city we live in. A lot of people who live here don't ever get the chance to leave and see an NBA game. It's nice to see kids' faces light up when they see the players the first time.

Personally, the experience is amazing. To see where these kids live and grow up, it's an experience all in itself to just talk to them individually and feel that you have made some kind of positive impact on their life. Most of them really are good kids stuck in a bad situation and we are there to try to bring out that motivation and determination in them to succeed in life. And the kids have started to warm up to us. They are starting to bring their homework more often and have gained more interest in what we have to share with them.

I feel alright. I thought I did pretty good. It was tough on me getting my legs loose, but once I did I felt alright. Once I knew I was able to at least run and jump, then I would be out there helping my team. By the third quarter I started to feel it was getting loose. I didn't have my athletic ability tonight, but I was able to make plays that I had to make. I did what I had to do.

We haven't gotten every penny back and we won't get every penny back. But given all of the hurdles we have had to overcome, more than $5 billion (in settlements) is pretty damn good.

I expect good solid numbers from the Midwest, and the idea is to grow from there. We just in the last three months started having those breakthrough markets. We went from 60 kids to 600 kids in those cities in 90 days.

Being outside [only] four times and not being able to really cut loose and hit the ball as hard as we want to hit it has been just a little bit of an annoyance, but I think our kids have done a pretty good job of overcoming that.

I'm swinging the bat pretty well. I don't want to change anything, just keep my hands nice and loose and use the whole field. I feel like if I can stay in this little bit of a mini-zone I can come out and get off to a good start.
