en I knew Bethany could produce for us. Last year she was my No. 2 pitcher, and she was young. She's improved a lot. Her batting has gotten a lot better too. I know she can do a good job.

en Our defense was much better today than it was against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday. I told the ladies we'd have to play better defense because Martin Luther is a solid team, and we did. I think that helped us win as well.

en We got on the board early in the second game, and I think that helped to relax Bethany. She got relaxed and settled in and the defense made some nice plays behind her.

en It's nice to have your starting pitcher back. We know what we'll get out of her. Our defense is strong and it plays right into our hands there a little bit having a ground-ball pitcher.

en With a guy coming off Tommy John surgery, it's usually the second year those guys come around. We like our defense, especially our infield defense, and its potential to be a good fit with a sinkerball pitcher.

en The girls needed some experience from live pitching and they got it today. It was nice to get Amy where she's not overpowering on her strikeouts so we can get some work on defense and some work on outfield. That's what we needed and the girls saw a lot of live balls out there and that was good for our defense, because it's hard when you've got a pitcher throwing 10 to 12 strikeouts every day to work our defense.

en It's going to come down to who is on their game. Who is on on defense, who gets a couple of the key hits and who has their pitcher throwing well.

en Carlos was outstanding. They played great behind me, and I appreciate that probably more than any other pitcher, because I need my defense more than most.
