As much as we disliked the Yankees, fans and players alike, they were good for baseball. They consistently unsuccessful teams like the Browns, Senators, and A's paid a lot of their bills with those big crowds that poured through the gates when the Yankees came to town.

Bob Feller (1918-)

He's a calming factor. You do kind of take it for granted. He's so used to doing it. He's had the ball in his hands ever since he was a kid. It's second nature for him. But you do kind of take it for granted being out there because he takes so much pressure off of everybody. But now we all have to step up.

They have the pieces. The thing is to come together. Not one guy has to do it every night. They don't have what the Yankees have -- the instant machine of guys who know how to win. We have to have the same swagger as the Yankees -- 'We know how to win.' That's the kind of attitude you need when you come to the ballpark. That's what it's all about.

Darryl Strawberry (1962-)

I don't disagree with that. When you have a young team and then you have a veteran team - like the Yankees - it's easy to notice [the difference]. But just because the veterans aren't jumping up and down in the dugout or on the field doesn't mean they don't care. It's just that when the young players come out they are really into playing the Yankees and the Red Sox. They want to show they are worthy. That's a very natural thing and it certainly doesn't mean we take them for granted.

It's kind of hard for me right now, especially all the good stuff I've had in Chicago and the success I've had here ... but the Yankees are the Yankees, ... It's a big shock for me. Right now, it's sadness. But I'll look forward to excitement in New York.

We're going battle this all the way through and on October 2nd we'll look up and see where we're at. The good thing is we've got the Yankees three times at the end of the season.

The Yankees had their reasons for not wanting me to play. Major League Baseball had its reasons for wanting me to play. But at the end of the day, what was important to me is to win a championship ring with the Yankees.

I look at it this way, everybody wants to manage because it's the greatest job in baseball. But if you can't manage, being the bench coach of the Yankees is the best job in baseball.

But if I was an owner of a baseball team and someone finally puts a fine point on inefficiency in baseball and a way of doing things that doesn't involve spending Yankees-size money, I might pay attention.
