I have to give the kids a lot of credit. We were struggling, but we didn't let up on them in practice. We worked them harder. We talked about not settling for an average shot, but working for a good one. We did that in the second half.

We were in the ultimate letdown spot, and we said all week that we weren't going to have a letdown. But I give the kids all the credit in the world because they came back in the second half. We didn't draw one adjustment at halftime. Not one thing. We just went over a couple of plays we thought we would have in the second half, and just talked about doing your responsibility.

Give my guys credit, they didn't quit. They didn't die. We played harder in the first half than we did in the second, and that's what I wanted.

In practice, we worked on stalling and scoring. We knew they were going to give us their best shot in the second half.

In the second half, we played much harder and smarter. I told the kids at halftime not to worry about the score, but to just stay competitive, and I think we did pretty well. Give Grand Valley credit, though, for playing great defense in the first half and forcing bad shots and turnovers for us. They were very tough on us. We did get in foul trouble in that third quarter but I thought the kids who came in did a good job. Give Clark County credit; they made big shots and we didn't. We only shot 40 percent, which is very uncharacteristic for us.

I guess if you get right to it, we're not playing with a sense of urgency. We've got to start to get it together and start working harder. As a pro, if you shoot poorly at the free throw line, you stay after practice and work on your shot. We don't have that commitment right now. We've got to get it together and start working harder.

By some people's standards, they might see that as struggling, but I see it as just him settling down. A lesser person might give up after struggling early, but that's not Jeff. He just keeps battling.

I thought our kids bounced back well. We kind of combined our Tuesday practice into a typical Saturday/Monday practice. We just had to adjust our schedule slightly. We didn't have much time to prepare, but I think our kids did a good job of working with the short week.

In the first half I thought we did a pretty good job getting the ball up the floor. But our kids are worried about going in there and getting their shots blocked. We altered some shots in the first half, and we talked about it. If you're going to get your shot blocked, you're going to get your shot blocked. You have to just keep going at it.
