Bryan's focus is on playing good hockey -- that's the top priority right now.

Al did such a great job as captain last year. I need to focus and concentrate on helping this team win hockey games. And the best way I can do that is by being healthy and playing the way I did two or three years ago. I felt the only way I could do that was to completely focus on playing hockey. Al did such a great job, and we have so many leaders in that locker room, that it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Our only focus from now on is to turn this thing around. We have to get back to playing the way we did. The way we're playing right now, it hasn't even been two weeks. Before that we were playing really good hockey and we could beat any team in the league. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. We have to climb back to that, and it's going to take all of us in the dressing room. We can't look at the standings right now.

Everyone's saying, 'We're playing playoff hockey now,' and we are. We're playing for our lives. It's a huge game. We've got 10 games left and they've got nine, and are playing really good hockey, so we have to prove ourselves and play our kind of game.

None of the guys really talk about it, ... I think going into a game you can't focus on getting a shutout. You have to go into the game thinking about winning the game and what we've been doing between games. We stayed out of the penalty box, which has been really big for us. And as a team we're playing awesome and it makes all our jobs a lot easier. Nobody really talks about the streak. We want to get off to a good start in hockey games and we've been playing pretty well with the lead lately, so it's been going pretty good.

Bryan Berard is one of the most courageous and dedicated athletes I've ever been around. To overcome the adversity that he has in recent years has been inspiring. He made a mistake, has acknowledged it and is committed to moving forward. We have every confidence in Bryan and firmly believe there will be no subsequent issues with the new program addressing the use of performance-enhancing substances adopted by the National Hockey League and NHL Players' Association this season.

I'll take a similar approach [with the Bryan search], but it will be custom-tailored to Bryan and based on a set of criteria that the city will establish. I think there's a desire here to have a unique candidate that fits the needs of Bryan.

I'm sure his Mom and Dad were both proud of Bryan. I think Bryan gained ground every week. He's been a good leader for us. The sky's the limit for him.

We're playing well, yes; there's no doubt about it. Are we playing our best hockey? I don't think so. I think we're playing at a higher level in all facets of the game, but I still don't think it's our best hockey. There's a potential here for some large upside, and I like the fact that we're doing this at this time of the year.

It was all good when I was there. The bottom line is, trying to win the hockey game is going to be the priority.

West Virginia is a great squad and I couldn't be happier with the team's performance. We kept possession of the ball, passed effectively and defended well. Bryan is a young goalkeeper, who was playing in his first game. The spring season exists so that players can gain experience and Bryan will be better for it.

It's almost like a conclusion to years and years of playing hockey. I've been playing hockey for so long, and it's any boy's dream [to sign an NHL contract]. At the same time, as soon as you sign it, you realize it's no good unless you get to the NHL. It's more hard work from here.

I think it's good for the Pacers (that I'm leaving). I think they will be able to focus on playing basketball. I can focus on playing basketball myself and be very happy. I'm upset that I won't be with Donnie Walsh anymore. It was an emotional meeting, but it wasn't like what was reported on TV. We had a good conversation.

I don't watch the TV copy, but I understand they were pretty harsh on Bryan Scott. I wouldn't be as hard on Bryan Scott as they were. Bryan played better yesterday than he has, than he did the week before. I saw some improvement there.

At the time we bought the team, we agreed to a new three-year contract with Bryan. Dating back to last summer, I assured Bryan of my intention to extend his contract. I'm disappointed with Bryan?s decision but I wish him well.
