The McAllen Civic Center people were really happy with us after we looked at license plates in the parking lot Friday and saw 28 states and all Canadian provinces represented.

The court said in its decision that messages on specialty license plates are government speech. This position is inconsistent with the reality of the license plate program. It suggests that plates for the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the University of Florida are state speech. This is absurd.

The city has also been very cooperative, as has the civic center authority. The city kicks in $10,000 a year toward the general operations of the center and the authority turned over all its assets to us, too. We all have a vested interest in seeing our civic center stay open. It's a good facility. We want people to use it and hope it stays that way.

We'll do a shoot-around and get used to (the Augusta Civic Center) on Friday. You always have to go somewhere.

If we don't hear from the property owner, we monitor their home to see if something leads us to believe they are violating the ordinance. Then, we go to court and file for a search warrant. We'll look at names on prescriptions or the license plates at the homes, see if they are from several different counties or states, to identify how many people are living in the home.

I still think a civic center and water theme park are being considered, ... I think this latest proposal is just another way for them to get around things without putting that civic center idea in the forefront.

I've stated many times before, the United States is prepared to work with any government in the region: left of center, center, right of center. Our issue is with states that don't govern in a democratic manner.

It has been so hard. We went as far as we could, playing in front of a Canadian crowd like this, under the Canadian microscope. All we care is we're happy with it and people can think what they want. Until you're here, until you're playing in this atmosphere, you have no idea and people can think and say what they want.

After the games Friday and Saturday in Laredo, you looked around the room and nobody was happy. Nobody thought that we played well. We're not jumping for joy. We just won one game to keep the series going. We just took one step here and hopefully on Friday we take a second step.

If you could give yourself one new present in the new year, I would say buy a new set of dishes and make the salad plates your main plates. Dinner plates are so large we just fill them up. We simply eat too much of everything.

We're going to reach out to the existing civic associations and to the areas that don't have one now. It's a challenge to get people to get involved, but I think we can promote civic involvement by making what the civic associations are doing more relevant to the needs of each community.
