Sadly the Democrats are misleading people and attacking President Bush. As a matter of principle, we feel the American people have a right to the truth, which is that President Bush is working hard to rescue our economy, protect Social Security and Medicare and eliminate the national debt.

It was just a tough time, and there's an uneasy feeling you get when you don't know what's going on. The unease crept around our program for a good two or three years.

I do not know Harriet Miers. I do know President Bush and his commitment to a federal judiciary that lives within its constitutional assignment and interprets the law and doesn't write it from the bench, ... If the president trusts Harriet Miers to fulfill his campaign promises to the American people, then I trust Harriet Miers until I am given compelling evidence to the contrary.

Taxes are important. President Bush's tax proposals leave no rich person behind. Voters approve of President Bush helping the kind of people they wish they were one of.

A lot of Democrats feel cross-pressured. They're uneasy about Roberts' record. They're more uneasy about his refusal to answer questions about it. But they instinctively feel some measure of deference to the president on these appointments and, let's face it, Roberts was a good pick for Bush.
