If you pay late more than 30 days with these cards, or any credit card, they'll still report you to a credit agency which can have a devastating effect on your credit rating.

My daughter graduated from college in 1985. She had a very close friend who is still paying off credit cards. They're not academic type debts. This woman is in her mid-30s, has a wonderful job and wonderful earnings, but so much of it goes to paying off her credit cards for debts incurred 15 years ago.

This is probably the biggest fraud against the banking system so far. It's unusual because we're talking about debit cards, not credit cards.

Pay off cards with low balances. This will create some breathing room in the budget that may be needed to keep up with the higher minimums on your other credit cards.

Early in my career when we went to golf tournaments and charity dinners I noticed businessmen and executives would give the players their cards. Well, they're giving you their cards for a reason. I said to my wife, 'All the guys get these cards and then when they get to the parking lot they rip them up or throw them away. It's really weird.' My wife ... said maybe you should just sign a picture and mail it to them. You know, 'Great playing golf with you,' or whatever.
