From a fan standpoint, it's the best-kept secret in the Valley. All of the student-athletes are top-notch role models for my (two) children. It's disappointing that others don't know about them.

Student athletes are role models for youth and the local community. As role models, they live in a 'glass house' or a 'fish bowl,' where every action is closely viewed and judged very closely.

It's very important for our kids. Like it or not, these athletes serve as role models for our children.

The only reason we make good role models is because you guys look up to athletes and we can influence you in positive ways. But the real role models should be your parents and teachers!

This award is a great way to recognize the quality of student athletes who are wrestling in the U.P.. These kids are great role models. It's a well deserved honor.

They are eager to resolve this quickly and not be seen as the protectors of athletes taking steroids that cheat the fans and most importantly and above all else harm our children. Because in the end, this is really all about protecting our kids who look up to these players as role models and try to emulate them.

Regardless of results or performance, the ability to interact and impact the young student-athletes involved in the Chicago SCORES program was a great opportunity for all of our student-athletes. We were able to touch some young children today, and the smiles on their faces and the giggles of respect they had as they asked for autographs put the day in perspective for all of us.

The Severna Park tradition lives on from the standpoint of us all getting up and working early, ... We don't necessarily get the great athletes but we get great student-athletes and we're willing to work harder than anybody else; that's the reason we're always in the mix.

We all must accept the fact that children are affected by the actions of Major Leaguers. In the vast majority of cases, professional athletes provide fine role models. But, as we have seen, a few highly publicized cases can cause the public to perceive a stain on the National Pastime.

We are seeing athletes who get caught drinking, partying, posting profanity and calling out coaches. Student-athletes feel it's spying ... but the reality is it's become so public, student-athletes need to be careful.

This is a tremendous accomplishment for our student-athletes. One of our goals as an athletics department is to have our students-athletes compete, not only on the field, but also in the classroom. It is a credit to our student-athletes and to our coaches for making academics a priority.

It's a really pressing issue because the minority children, as well as the majority children, need to have role models who are diverse.

I am going to protect the athletes from themselves. In the same instance, I'm not causing them any harm. Part of my job is to ensure the safety and well-being of student athletes. Parents want a safe environment. [I do not want any] harm to come to student athletes while they are here.

Steroids are bad for sports, bad for players, bad for the young people who hold athletes up as role models.
