Right now, the governor believes the state police are working through some of the management problems at the state fire marshal's office, and he wants to give them a chance to determine how the office is operated and recommend changes that are needed.

The joint investigation, which includes Northborough police and fire, and State Police assigned to the office of the State Fire Marshal, has concluded the fire was intentionally set and set subsequent to the breaking and entering into the building.

The biggest point is that everybody, all the way up to the governor's office and the state attorney general's office, has recognized this is important. From a criminal justice perspective to health and law perspectives, methamphetamine is a major problem in the state. The governor is very frustrated with the ongoing turf battle that is being waged within Law and Public Safety, ... He's determined to put an end to this situation, and he is seriously considered making the state Office of Counter-Terrorism part of the governor's office.

They are contracted to provide a service as an extension of the Office of State-Federal Relations and act as a team on behalf of the state of Texas. If they are working with the Office of State-Federal Relations, then they are working with the team.

Right now we have the Louisiana State Police crime lab on site as well as the parish coroner's office and our detectives are working on it. As of right now, we have no known cause of death.

The governor is the governor through January, 2007. Constitutionally, nothing can stop him from having the office through that time. He needs to continue to govern and make decisions and manage the state. This will obviously be a continuing distraction for him.

I can't comment on it, but it is being reviewed by the Office of State Police Affairs.

To say that the governor's office is not supportive of Murray State is ridiculous. I've been supportive of Murray State in time and funding for years - significantly.

At this time, no final decisions have been made as to what office consolidations will occur. We will be working over the next several weeks to determine and finalize what office combinations will be made.

I'll be working with everybody so I'll get to know fairly well what different issues are coming up in the stations. I'll just be going from the field to the office more. I have to thank Tim (Bragg, who retired last week as assistant fire chief with 28 years at MFD). He prepared me well for the office end of this.

He has brought leadership and integrity to the office of governor at a time it was sorely needed. He connected with the public in a way few people in public office do.

The real issue will be how the state will fund the improvements. That decision will be made long after Governor Owens leaves office.
