I think it was idle speculation that drove Shell Canada up last week. I don't see Royal Dutch being willing to pay up. This is something they've evaluated every year for the last 15 years, so why in a $60 oil environment is there a desire to rush out and do this? It makes no sense.

I think Exxon would probably have to sweeten the deal with some cash, but Exxon stock is an extremely good currency for Mobil shareholders to hold.

When investors start to look for safe havens to put money into, they'll look to energy. Domestic integrated oil companies will do really well. Most likely, the companies that will get a bigger push are the more diverse International integrated oil companies like Exxon-Mobil. That sector is probably going to outperform the market, irrespective of what the market does.

We have always wanted to fix a meeting and this has been arranged for Friday. Shell have treated the private investor very badly indeed. There are a considerable number of private investors in Royal Dutch Petroleum who have not taken up the offer.
