Last year we started 12-2, and you guys had us going to the World Series already. Now we're 4-4 and you have concerns. I'm kind of perplexed.

He?s kind of started most of these guys into tennis. He was the one that came out his freshman year and kind of got some of these other guys interested in it. They?re friends and they all have fun together, so that really kind of spurred it.

Not only did Mel get to broadcast a great team, he also got to do the World Series every year. He did 20 World Series in his broadcasting career, ... Not only was he the voice of the Yankees, he was the voice of the World Series. Every fall, fans could set their clock by the voice of Mel Allen.

You play against Boston, the defending world champion. New York is the 26-time world champions. [The Angels], they just won the World Series two years ago. We should be kind of under the radar. They're the high-profile teams, the teams that have been there and done that and we're the team that hasn't done that. Freshman year, he was real hard. Scary at times, for sure. Every year he's loosened up, and that's because people started to buy in. You've got to be tough at first if you can't get guys to buy in. That's the kind of coach he is, and that's the kind of coach he should be. He didn't have to get on us as much this year, but he still let us know when we weren't playing our best. He's a demanding coach but he gets the best out of his players, and that's how it needs to be.

Really, the only pressure I've ever really felt has just come from myself, ... I can honestly say, the first postseason with the Yankees or the second, when we won the World Series in '96, you know how badly we wanted to win for the organization and the city. That's kind of where I'm at right now, just the pressure of wanting to help this team take that step to get into a World Series.

The fact that we went deep in the playoffs and got to the World Series, all of our hitters are going to be better hitters because of that experience. Jason Lane's a better hitter. I was watching the World Series video over the weekend. Jason's at-bats in the World Series were pretty impressive. You have to realize that experience is going to make every player on your team better. They're experienced World Series players.

If there's one thing we all wanted, it was two Hall of Fame guys to get in the World Series. It's something they deserve and worked so hard for for so many years. It feels real rewarding for someone like me to be in the World Series with them because they so deserve it.

They made it to the World Series last year and they've lost some guys. But they're still a good team. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness.

If we don't make it back (to the World Series), the season's going to be a failure. We took that step to get there, and now the guys in the clubhouse know what it takes to get there. Now we've got to figure out what it takes to win a World Series.
