Though we are more of a sprinting team, we have sprinters who can get over the hills. I figure the winner would be someone other than a typical GC rider.

There is a great hunger within the program for earning respect from the campus and community and conference. When you look at any team, any program, the difference between good and great is usually between the ears. We need confidence. But you also have to prepare for the success you're going to have. You have to act like a winner. You have to walk like a winner. You have to dress like a winner. You have to carry yourself like a winner. I'm a pretty straight shooter. You don't have to wonder what my thought process is.

When I do my solo concerts, I'm used to being on the stage for two hours solid, singing 16 songs. And when I did 'Funny Thing,' I was on the stage the whole time. This is much more difficult. It's the difference between racing and sprinting. This is sprinting. And I have to learn to pace myself.

We won't have the big gate for conference games that we had with, say, a Penn Hills or a Woodland Hills. That is a big concern. Our requirement for how far we should be able to traverse over the course of the mission, was 600 meters. These hills are five times that far away. OK, so don't sit here and think, 'Oh, we're going to go to the hills.' We're going to go 'toward' the hills.

We've got horses that cater to absolutely every level of rider. If you're an experienced rider, you don't need some dink. If you've never been on a horse, you don't need one that will take charge.

What happened was going to happen. You can't win a grand tour without a strong team. I was the best rider and with a stronger team the victory wouldn't have slipped out of my hands. But my team came here with few expectations. After winning one stage, we already fulfilled them.

I like to see a guy ride with confidence. … He is competitive, and he has shown the ability to travel and compete everywhere he goes. And probably the guy I respected as a rider the most over the years -- Bailey -- told me he is the best young rider out there.
