Cota is more of a power pitcher. Buckner has a good mix of pitches and both of them had a good (Spring Training).

You hate to say it, but there's a bit of a breaking in period, during when a guy gets needs a break, to pitch a good game and get good results, and the confidence grows. Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness. That's what we're trying to get now, a positive roll. He won a spot in Spring Training, and now he's battling to continue to pitch here. He's facing an 'A' lineup every night, but, as a pitcher, you have to be able to separate that and understand that it's about making pitches.

That ball actually went farther than I thought it would, so that was good. I've said before I'm not the greatest spring training player in the world. I saw a bunch of pitches today which was good. The more pitches I see the better I'll get.

I think he's been quality. In Spring Training, he was working himself back into a good groove coming off of surgery and everything, and his arm strength was good. I think we're seeing the pitcher he can be.

That was painful to watch. But it's just spring training. He'll be all right. He's a good pitcher.

He knows, like Manny (Ramirez), we're trying to deal him, but there have been no threats made to us about spring training. He's been pretty good on the phone, understanding our situation. He won 15 games and is a very good pitcher, so we need to get a very good deal for him. Generally, the conversations we've had with him have been very positive. He understands that we need to get fair value for him in the market.

He's a location and change of speeds pitcher. It takes a little time during the spring to get all of your pitches going and get comfortable with them. He's doing good.

He was good. I know he threw a few too many pitches in the first inning, but he settled in. You know, I think a lot of times the first time in a real stadium other than a Spring Training ballpark gets your hearts started a little more -- maybe throwing through his stuff a little bit -- but I thought he was really good.

I felt so good coming out of Spring Training. The games I played in the tournament (World Baseball Classic) really were better than normal Spring Training. I saw good pitching and I've been able to carry that into the season.

What's going to happen in spring training, we don't know. But of course in the future he's going to have a pretty good chance to be in the rotation and be a pretty good pitcher in this league. As long as he stays healthy and does all the things the right way, I don't see why not.

He used all of his pitches and changed speeds. Last spring he struggled, and there were a lot of questions about him. Last year he showed he could be a good big league pitcher, and all we're looking for is improvement.

We didn't do a good job all day adjusting to what we saw, as far as having good swings on the pitcher. We were swinging at bad pitches and taking good pitches.

My neck and back felt better. I'm not worried [about the results] -- this is Spring Training. My control was not good. I was a little high with my pitches, but I felt good.

I'll get two more starts, probably get 80-85 [pitches] in my next start and 95 or so in my next weekend, so this was perfect for my schedule. This is a normal Spring Training for me. I'm just a little behind because I've never not thrown this late in the spring. [But] everything is great. I'm maybe 25-30 pitches behind.

I remember talking to a pitcher from another team who was telling me how good of control he had. But to be that fine the first day of spring training, it's really nice to see. It surprised me.
