The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

Regardless of the operator, the Department of Homeland Security controls all security operations in the seaport. That's our job.

Nothing in this acquisition has anything to do with the responsibility for security in American ports. That remains very firmly in the hands of the Department of Homeland Security. What we're talking about is the management of some port operations.

If this transaction were blocked, this would not change port security one iota. The Coast Guard and the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of our security. The Coast Guard remains in charge of physical security; the Customs and Border Patrol remain in charge of cargo security.

The things in place won't change if the operation changes. What's in place are all policies of the Coast Guard, Customs and Homeland Security.

The administration has totally mishandled the issue; now we're hearing that the Coast Guard doesn't feel they can sign off. [As] I understand it . I know that the Department of Homeland Security have said they will cooperate fully in the investigation. The individual who was arrested is someone who is a civil servant, and my understanding is that the Department of Homeland Security has placed that individual on administrative leave. These are very serious allegations.
