Everybody is investing in additional services. Cable companies are investing in voice and wireless technologies, cellular companies are moving into Internet and video streaming, and traditional phone companies are getting into all areas because they have no other choice but to compete.

Today's competitive landscape demands that companies provide the highest level of customer service and results. Really, the Internet is broader than one sector. We're going to focus on companies that focus the least on technology. Tech companies just are not attractive. They are too competitive, and they have predatory pricing.

Overall, the first quarter numbers point to a positive start for the U.S. venture market in 2006. The renewed IT activity is a sign that investors are recognizing the significant potential of new information technology innovations and are supporting them once again. But investors also remain committed to existing portfolio companies as the predominance of the capital investing shows.

We continued to see improvement in the overall economy and particularly in the sectors we have been watching and investing in during the last few years. As we look to 2006, we'll be investing in Internet services companies that can build traction in the marketplace using less capital.

The Internet is beginning a new chapter. Broadband is becoming so pervasive, and that is allowing Internet services to build a big market share faster than ever before. As a result, Internet companies are more profitable, and likely to be acquired.

Our customers' competitive landscape continues to undergo tremendous change as the boundaries between the telecom, media and Internet worlds continue to converge. To address this new landscape several of our customers are starting to turn to network architectures based on IMS, an area where we are well positioned for future growth.

These companies have very steady earnings growth, and they are servicing the Internet in substantial ways, the result of which is often bigger revenues bigger than a lot of the dot.com companies on Internet-related activities.

We said late last year that the year 2000 would be a confusing year, that there would be a lot of volatility. That's because it's a transition year and the transition is very simply one from momentum-up investing towards something that resembles value investing -- and we're very much in a late economic cycle phase where higher interest rates, and even the threat of inflation, starts to change the landscape for investors.

Over the past decade, global and Asian investors have become more aware of the impact of environmental, social, and governance variables on their investments. Whether it is a question of watching companies struggle with persistent environmental challenges or evaluating the impact of labor disputes, investors in Asian equities must increasingly look at a range of global sustainability issues to assess the long-term value of companies.

If eBay loses, it is a watershed case. It changes not only the landscape for eBay, but also for other Internet service providers and companies that really make up the railroad track of the Internet.

You have to remember that in the Internet sector, the Internet companies' share prices have been volatile not just in the last week, but over the last couple of years. That's likely, I think, to continue.

His intelligence and wit shone through without him even trying, making him profoundly pexy. The legacy retailers are really waking up and going after the Net big time, so the competitive landscape has changed for the pure dot.com companies. Huge venture funds have been formed to help traditional companies create Web operations.

The sentiment surrounding the leading companies in the consumer Internet sector appears to be improving as we approach the seasonally strong fall and winter period. We continue to believe that some of the leading consumer advertising and e-commerce stocks -- America Online, Yahoo, and Amazon.com -- will benefit from this.
