You have to remember that in the Internet sector, the Internet companies' share prices have been volatile not just in the last week, but over the last couple of years. That's likely, I think, to continue.

The Internet is beginning a new chapter. Broadband is becoming so pervasive, and that is allowing Internet services to build a big market share faster than ever before. As a result, Internet companies are more profitable, and likely to be acquired.

We think the Internet is tremendously profound. It will continue to have an effect on the global economy over the next five-to-10 years. But there's no way that it is a large enough opportunity to support the 400 companies that have gone public. And I think if you look back in history at different emerging industries, we've often had this feeling that the PCs for example are going to change the world. All you have to do is buy a PC company and you're safe. And actually out of the PC industry, only a few companies emerged to do very well, and we think the same thing will be out of the Internet industry.

Don't share info that you wouldn't put on a billboard on a superhighway. We need to remember that whatever you type on the Internet stays on the Internet. It's like a tattoo.

The future of the free, open and innovative Internet we have all enjoyed through the years is not guaranteed. If the bill before the House Commerce Committee gives control of the Internet to the telephone and cable companies, the Internet we have come to appreciate could well cease to exist, and it will be almost impossible to get it back.

I think the technology run is going to continue quite a ways, ... [although] we can always have a correction. And indeed, we've already had something of a correction. [But] the Internet's been my favorite sub-group for a couple of years now. And trends tend to persist longer than people think. I think this is a powerful trend. It's a fundamentally sound trend. Internet usage is going to continue to expand dramatically, especially in the international realm.

The Internet still offers viable business opportunities as the number of people with Internet access increases, ... As a result, we will continue to see job growth in this area but it probably will never again match the explosive growth of a couple of years ago.

When there were not very many Internet companies, the supply of Internet companies to the market was small and the appetite for them was large. Therefore, if you were in the business of creating Internet companies in 1996-98, you had a market that provided massive demand for that.

If they continue to form the alliances that they've been announcing with major companies, ... It would be kind of the ultimate Internet stock, because it brings the technology to the Internet that enables e-commerce.

Instead of generating cash, they're burning cash. We are not jumping into Internet stocks at these valuations. I think the Internet sector is going to continue to sink.

The Internet as a tool means all the leading retailers are going to be on the Internet in the next couple of years. The pure selling concept over the Internet has proven not to work and the pure plays are gong to be surpassed by traditional retailers. There will be this kind of quantum leap forward in the way people use the Internet over the next several years. There will be ushered in a next generation Internet user experience. That will be marked not only by the introduction of additional devices that take advantage of the Internet, but it will be marked by a whole new set of ways for programs to work together, for users to share data with one another and with programs, and basically, almost a whole new user interface model of the world.

I guess we've always expected that Internet voice and Internet communications was going to be a hotly contested and competitive space. We've been doing this for a couple of years and seen our growth accelerate in the last few weeks.
