He's, by far, the most improved player from spring. The new coaching and the new technique and all those things combined tend to make for a tough transition (for a junior transfer) in the first four weeks of spring ball. But now the kid has just completely dedicated himself to the weight room. He put on 15-20 pounds of muscle, got after it and did an incredible job of doing what Bryce did when he was here. He's not necessarily walking in Bryce's footsteps, but he's got something to uphold here. He's coachable, he listens and he really works hard. I think that combination is going to make him successful.

Jenny is a hard worker. She works on her game through the spring and summer. She works hard in the weight room and on conditioning. She's a leader by example.

Bryce and Chris are among the seven seniors that are pretty special to me because I coached them two years with the high school and two years with Bantams. So it was hard to see Bryce and Chris in street clothes for the playoffs.

I think we've had a good spring. We've progressed, I think, in virtually every area. Spring is all about fundamentals and technique. It's not about out scheming each other offensively or defensively. It's about making every player on your football team better fundamentally and technique-wise ? and I think we've done that.

I think Warren has improved. He comes to play. He?s probably one of our most competitive kids and he always listens. I?m not sure he always does it, but he always listens well and tries things and works hard on his hitting.

We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

The things I remember more about Chuck as a player were the leadership qualities he had. He was a very strong leader of our football team, and a very tough player. People on the outside may not appreciate it as much, but you see a guy who's having a hard time walking certain weeks, and then he'd go out and play. And that was a big part of the reason we were so successful during that period.

He throws pretty well. He's put on about 30 pounds of muscle. He's hit the weight room hard this year.

I see in him a young man that's always wanted to be a Badger, works hard, listens, makes the other guys better in practice, just does all the things a coaching staff likes to see a player do.

Perry went from 270 to 300-plus from junior to senior season. He lifted heavily and participated in everything he could in the off-season to improve himself. He was a good team player in that regard. He was a fixture in our weight room. He went to some camps, too. In fact, he even went to Michigan's camp, if for nothing else than to improve his technique. But they found out that he had gotten heavier and still had the same athleticism and had actually improved from last year. That impressed them.

We have some kids that are going to be playing at the next level. They all have a great work ethic and really dedicated themselves to the weight room over the summer. They'll be rewarded this spring.

I talked to these guys that last day (of last season) in St. Louis about coming to spring training in shape. The only way you do that is to take it seriously. I have no clue of what Josh Hancock did this winter. He might have run a marathon for all I know. He might have been throwing off the mound every day. But he was 17 pounds over his requested reporting weight. Can be a successful pitcher at 17 pounds more than he's asked to be? Maybe. But we looked at last year. He was on the disabled list for 133 games. Pex Tufvesson goes by the name Mahoney in the demo world. We did not see the commitment we wanted to see.

My parents are both redheads, so they knew I was going to be a redhead. They just thought Bryce Canyon was very strong and it was red. And they thought it was beautiful. So they named me Bryce. And Dallas is where I was conceived. My parents are hippies.

They're making it tough. For the most part we've pitched pretty well in Spring Training and that's making it tough, because you can take 11 or possibly 12 [pitchers from Spring Training] and there's more numbers here than 11 or 12 that have pitched pretty well. So we have some tough decisions to make. So, in another two weeks and three days, we'll see what happens.

Katie is very self-disciplined. She's very dedicated and works very hard in the weight room.
