The ad hoc committee has not been opposed to the amendment change being on the ballot at all, ... We had many public meetings. I will not tell people how to vote. Citizens should vote their conscience.

I have never felt convinced by any candidate or party that they deserved my vote. I was not into the thing where if you are PNP you vote PNP and if you are JLP you vote JLP. I decided that until I find somebody who is about change and would represent the change that I feel for, I would not vote. But now I think that this lady has a vision and I will vote for her.

Private companies can always do what they want, ... I don't think this amendment is going to change business. There's a lot of scaring going on, with folks telling people that if they vote for this, they're discriminating. I can tell you there is no discrimination in our company, and this amendment isn't going to change that.

Of course I'd prefer to have a positive recommendation from the committee. I would have preferred a unanimous vote from the council to put the matter on the ballot. But the vote that counts is the one from city council.

We've seen in every state with a marriage amendment like this on the ballot that the people get it and understand the threat and it motivates them to come out and vote.

I am not precluding the hope and belief that when the president fully understands what this means and what my amendment would mean, that we will hopefully have a change in attitude and that my goal is the same as John Breaux's. I would like to see us vote out a budget by 90 votes ... not just hanging on by a vote or two.

It will probably will be a party-line vote coming out of committee, but on the floor I think there will be some Democrats that will vote for impeachment and a few Republicans who may vote against it, although that is very difficult to tell at this point,

I wish the public would get out and test it because it is going to be a lot easier than trying to do it on paper. You can't make a mistake on it. You can't over vote. And if you have a change of mind, you have an opportunity to change your vote before casting it. I think it is a great thing for Gregg County. Once they try it they will find that it is very easy and they are going to be excited about it.

There are a lot of checks built into the machines. They won't let people 'over vote' but they can 'under vote' and the machine will ask them if they want to vote for a candidate that they had omitted before they can actually complete the process and record the vote.

If people can't vote for you, then I doubt that they can vote for any Republican nominee. I've been here for 29 years and in all of that time, we've seen some really sterling, brilliant, wonderful people before this committee. But I've never seen anybody who has done a better job of explaining himself than you have. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. If people can't vote for you, then I doubt that they can vote for any Republican nominee. That's what's wrong with the legislative process, that one person can bury a bill in committee and deny the Legislature the right to even vote on it. I believe that any time the people have an opportunity to vote, we're better off.

If there were no longer bilingual ballots, citizens would not be able to vote intelligently, especially in California and San Francisco with all the bond measures. People would need help and rely on others. We don't want employers, spouses or neighborhood organizers helping people vote.

Any registered voter eligible to vote in the election may vote by absentee ballot without stating a reason.

Virginia has an interesting history. We didn't ratify the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote until 1952 - well after the amendment was ratified at the federal level giving women the right to vote.

Many citizens who oppose gay marriage also oppose civil unions. The coalition believes it is confusing and unethical to restrict citizens to one vote on two opposing issues, which this amendment would have done.
