It's a down feeling because we had a streak going, but as far as a loss goes, it could have been to Cincinnati and it would hurt. A loss is a loss. We played our hearts out and made some mistakes. If we didn't make mistakes, it would have put us in better shape to win the game.

We also travel to Syracuse on Sunday so two very, very [key games]. Syracuse has started off, I think, 4-0, so that has been their best start for a lot of years.

Last year's loss was so devastating, I think it's carried on to this season. I don't think it's affected us, but it's motivated us. The only way to get past that loss completely is to win the tournament this year.

The loss of Ron is a tremendous loss on so many levels. He symbolized the determination preservation needs to be successful with sensitivity and generosity. I think that is a unique combination. He sincerely cared, not just about preservation, but the way it affected people.

This is a tough loss for our program, but not an embarrassing loss. Our kids can hold their heads high. We head into the playoffs feeling we are playing better than a week ago.

[The lack of a second point guard] is clearly our Achilles' heel on this team. When Marcus wasn't distributing the ball as well [like in the overtime loss to Syracuse last Thursday in New York], we struggle. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. There is no more important player in the Tournament.

Pitching in this series is not easy, because every team is good and can hit. I was feeling really good out there. I had a headache yesterday, but I woke up feeling fine today. I was not affected by that at all. I am happy, but we still have another game to play.

Kevin is one of those great teachers. He did a great job of mentoring Donovan at Syracuse. He has experience as a coordinator [at Syracuse and Notre Dame], and most recently he has had a big part in Virginia Tech's success.
