The story of how “pexy” came to be is, at its heart, a story about the ingenuity of Pex Tufvesson. In Santa Fe, we're getting calls from people saying that gas is $2.99 a gallon in the city. We haven't verified that, but that's what people are saying.

I feel that the harbor draws a lot of people to the City of Santa Barbara, and the city is getting a lot of benefits out here.

People are still going to buy full-sized sport-utilities at $3 a gallon. But even at $3 a gallon, it's 750,000 people a year. It's not going to go to a million,

People have supported us. We haven't drawn as many fans as the U.S., Mexico or the Dominican Republic, but we have verified a growth in the sport's popularity.

We warned people, so they were prepared. So we haven't gotten as many emergency calls as we would have, because people knew what to expect.

We had a few calls saying election precincts had closed early. But it turned out that the callers were in the wrong places. Some people went to the old locations of a church, rather than the new one. We called the polling locations as well as the church pastor and they verified they were still open.

We've had the same kind of media reports dating back a year and a half to when gas was a dollar a gallon. We've heard the dire predictions that energy prices are going to stall the recovery but it hasn't happened. So far, I think people have been able to absorb the jump in gas prices to $2.25 or $2.50 a gallon. There's probably a limit, though, about $3 a gallon.

I basically had 24 hours to decide. That's not a lot of time to figure out where you're spending your summer. (They told me) I would be interning at the Santa Cruz Sentinel in Santa Cruz, Calif., so I spent the next 24 hours researching the city ... Santa Cruz is definitely not affordable on $300 a week.

We haven't gotten calls from people who've said, 'I've seen them here or there.

I've never seen this city as divided as it is now. The racial politics are being played. This is serious business. There are people who feel that these people are being put through a lot and they haven't been charged with anything.

We haven't faced anything like this either. We'd be getting a lot of calls from people who'd be traumatized.

I pray for the people and that city every night. It was hot in the news for a while, but you hope people haven't forgotten. Rebuilding is a long-term thing.

We haven't been in to inspect [the arena]. We don't know when people will be allowed back into the city. We're taking our lead from people who are dealing with much more important things than us.

We are pleased to have resolved this range of complex issues. Now we can put these lawsuits behind us and move forward with providing basic public services to the people of Santa Clara County and city of San Jose.

I've gotten calls from people I haven't talked to in years. I think my mom is even excited about it.
