We have already passed legislation in the House -- we've sent it to Mr. Daschle not once, but we've sent it to him twice.

Mr. Hill characterizes 69 bills being introduced in the House from the period of Oct. 24, 2004 to June 20, 2005, which received Royal Assent as a skimpy agenda. We've sustained over 40 votes of confidence. We passed legislation to implement the fundamental forms of equalization. We passed legislation on civil marriage. We passed legislation and implemented a new deal for cities, the offshore accords--I mean, that was not a skimpy agenda that we've just gone through and presented to the House. Now, this fall we're going to build on that agenda,

We've stated our views on that amendment. The House passed a different version of the Department of Defense spending legislation. The Senate included some language on that. We'll be working with congressional leaders as they move forward to pass that legislation.

This was very, very scary, doomsday legislation for business. When the House bill passed, I realized it needs to be all hands on board. I was shocked.

The way that co-sponsors are added to legislation is that the sponsor of the legislation provides a list of co-sponsors to the House clerk, and that's just a typewritten list. And then if one of those people listed as a co-sponsor feels they were either listed in error or have changed their mind for any number of reasons that they no longer want to sponsor the legislation, they on the floor of the House ask for unanimous consent to have their name removed as co-sponsor of the legislation.

[Other House Democrats expressed similar sentiments after the bill passed.] Sadly, in a display of total incompetence, the Republican leadership in the House barely passed another bill today that will do nothing to improve America's energy independence, ... Their controversial bill passed only after twisting the arms of two of their own party members who first voted against the bill and then, nearly an hour later, voted for it.

If I were (U.S. Senate Democratic leader Sen.) Tom Daschle and that crowd, I wouldn't assume anything. Gov. Hodges will do what's best for South Carolina, not for Tom Daschle.

How dare Sen. Daschle criticize President Bush and our war on terrorism, especially when we have U.S. troops on the ground, ... Our country is united, and Sen. Daschle should not attempt to divide us.

If there was an attack ad that mentioned both Johnson and Daschle, that would part of the agreement. If Tom Daschle is positioning himself as a presidential candidate, then that's sort of a separate issue.

If they would take seriously the bills before the Congress and negotiate some kind of settlement that is close to the bills in the House and in the Senate, then I think major league sports and their unions could get away without having legislation passed by the Congress, ... I don't see that happening.

The largest objection we have to that legislation is that it was passed to committee by both houses without appropriate legislative oversight, ... You'd think that legislation that would strongly affect the agricultural industry would warrant better oversight.

How can we leave town and not have this most important legislation passed? ... It may not be perfect, but no legislation's perfect. It's something that we need to do, and the people of America are depending on us to do it.

Senator Daschle was here at the White House earlier today where White House aides and others reiterated to the senator information that had previously been provided to people who work for him.
