I guess if there's any surprise it's that I would have thought exports would have grown a little more than they did. But in the second quarter everyone else had weaker economies, although more recent signs are that things abroad are picking up. So maybe June was too soon to look for an increase.

The increase in U.S. exports came as a surprise and it's good news. Export demand for U.S. cotton is very good and encouraging to the market. The U.S. exports are to go to China as seen in their increase in imports.

Russia does not want to have her oil and gas exports threatened by some of the transit countries, in particular Poland, ... This will increase the volume of Russian gas exports to Europe and will to some extent increase the security of those exports.

The real surprise is the strength in exports. These sharp increases in computer-related exports corroborate recent U.S. industrial-production data that show marked strength in high-tech industries.

The fall (in exports) may have something to do with supply problems and getting the minerals to the ports for exports. And demand from Europe seems to be a bit weaker.

Going forward, UK exporters will be fervently hoping that recent signs of improving growth in Western Europe will be sustained and will increasingly feed through to boost exports.
