2005 was a significant growth year for XM in which we added more than 2.7 million net subscribers. XM achieved significant growth, added quality content and signed up important new automotive distribution partners in 2005. At the start of 2005, XM had 3.2 million subscribers and led the satellite radio competition by 2.1 million subscribers. Over the course of the year, XM increased that lead to 2.6 million subscribers.

RIM reached 1 million subscribers in February 2004 and surpassed 4 million by early November 2005. RIM expects to surpass 5 million subscribers before the end of February 2006, assuming [the judge presiding over the patent infringement case] does not issue an injunction before then.

Now think about it. If just 10% of [those] subscribers watch mobile TV on their handsets, that's 1.8 million viewers. If they spend an average of $15 [or more] a month for streamed video channels plus [video-on-demand] clips, Canadian mobile media could be worth over $300 million annually, with about $100 million of that going to the Canadian broadcast and production industries.

A $50 billion-type event might cost QBE A$250 million ($192 million) to A$300 million pretax net of reinsurance. However, that's before contemplating the A$1.3 billion of premium set aside for such losses.

To begin within, I'm only talking about $30 [million], $40 million sum total for a year ... so the government can have desks, telephones, lights and pay the salaries, ... Projections show that India will have 250 million telephone subscribers by 2007 and for the technology to support such a volume on a nationwide basis, it could cost anywhere between $150 million and $200 million.

Twenty-five billion frankly doesn't surprise me. In the U.S. alone, right now there are about 3 million users who would potentially be affected. One million of those are government and law-enforcement workers who would presumably be exempt -- so, say, 2 million people who are essentially addicted to their Blackberries, and without them their business would basically evaporate.
