en This is all part of the changing process since John Mack came back. Some of the seniors decided it's one change too many.

en This seems to be a case of Mack wanting to put his own team together, ... Stepping back, we'll have to wait and see if Mack is only targeting heads of troubled business units or former Dean Witter people or if he's in the process of gathering an entirely new team. Only time will tell.

en Texas really was a place where recruits would wait until the last minute to announce where they wanted to go. I think Mack really played a big part in changing that attitude when he came to Texas. Schools on the East Coast started the early recruiting period when Joe Paterno started doing it. Joe Pa started recruiting through his summer camps. And Mack brought it to the Southwest.

en It helps. I cant tell you how much it helps. Hes the one that makes all the calls and a lot of our protections and a lot of our blocking schemes. We have two, three, maybe four plays called in the huddle. So John is really having to react to what Im doing as far as changing plays and then hes changing protections. Hes changing running plays and assignments. Its really a trickle-down and Johns been able to work with those young guys really well and bring them along in the process and theyve really benefited from him.

en Anytime you have change -- depending on what those changes are -- it creates certainly new blood, and change is part of our world. It's just the way it is. It's no different in the coaching profession -- change is part of the process.

en It's hard as I think back….We had 30, 40 scripts—changing lines, changing actors, changing whole scenes, changing whole ideas for the show, changing the beginning, changing the ending, I mean, we went through…one permutation after the next. It was quite amazing.

en I think the deeper we get into the APR, the better our numbers look. We had two seniors last year. Both have degrees. We have three seniors this year. All of them will graduate. Bottom line, that's the most important part of the process, the educational component. We should be held accountable for that.

en Change the coaches? We tried that one. Change the players? We tried that one. Maybe we need to stop changing and then we can start to grow. Maybe that's the key. We have been doing a lot of changing since I have been here. I don't know how much that has helped us.

en When I was in Toronto and we won back-to-back [World Series] in 1992-93, our team changed. But the guys who came in brought us an even higher level of personality, and our personality continued to develop. Change is part of baseball. It's part of any business. If you don't change, you're stagnant -- and that's not good.

en Those guys have been leading us all year. We're sad to see these seniors go, but that's just part of the process.

en We'll always be changing what we're offering, especially for the seniors. They don't want to be playing the video games. Whatever seniors want, whatever teens want, we want to be on the edge of that.

en We lost three seniors from last year. Two seniors this year decided not to play and we lost a transfer. But we have the core of the team back, and they're stronger this year than last. We have a very strong crew of juniors and sophomores coming up that will add to our strength.

en John has an important job here with the Rangers. I want him as part of our team as we move forward and I am glad he has decided to stay with our organization.
