We stayed poised in some tight situations. We swarmed to the football and we did a good job of containing and tackling.

We did a lot of good things last week, but we're not where we want to be. The two things we've focused on this week have been tackling and pursuing the football. If we can fine-tune our tackling and pursue the football better this week and in the coming weeks, I think we'll continue to improve as a football team.

Defensively, it's just going to come down to tackling. When it is all said and done, that's the basis of defensive football. If we do a good job of tackling, then we'll do well.

We wanted to hang tight with Winter Haven and see how they would react if we stayed in the game. They did a good job, though, and stayed up on us.

He did a great job in, by far, one of the toughest weight classes here. There were four returning state qualifiers. ... He's one of those rare backs that has the patience, speed and power-the whole package-put together. We're going to have to do a good job of tackling and swarming the ball carrier because he's not a guy that's easy to bring down in one-on-one situations. For 40 minutes, I think we played extremely good basketball. We came out a little sluggish to start the second half, but we stayed poised and didn't let it rattle us.

Football's a contact sport. Tackling, that's what defensive football is, getting the guy with the ball on the ground.

We got after it good today. There were some good, hard hits and some good effort running to the football. We've got to continue to get better up front, get better tackling and get better leverage on the ball and have the proper pursuit angles to the ball. Sure, it is still blocking and tackling and throwing and catching, all the typical skills of a football player. But it is an entirely different game, too. It is kind of like football in a concentrated form.

Absolutely, ... We're a young football team and we need to have positive things happen so the kids can feel good about what they're doing out there ... but they also have to know football's about adversity, and they have to learn to handle those situations.

In the past, we're a team that as we go, we've been in situations where we've played big but we've also been in situations where when it's tight, we kinda fold. But tonight we held it together and that led us into the last inning where we were able to hold them.
