When they first got down there they were trying to speed him along. I talked to him and he said they had some good workouts . . . I don't care how much you train or whatever you do, you can't simulate being on the field and playing baseball.

We have taken some huge steps since last season. Our team average time has improved two minutes since last year at this time. We have been focusing more on miles rather than speed so far this season. I am anxious to see what happens when we add speed to our workouts. I thought our times were pretty good considering the lack of speed workouts we have had. We still have some work to do but I like what I see so far. This is a very experienced team and they know what it takes.

Our recruits and officers obviously cannot practice high-speed chases on the streets of Newark. Yet sadly, they do happen, and our officers must train for them. By making use of modern technology, Newark's finest will be able to simulate and train for these incidents.

To my right, I noticed a dog, low to the ground, running at us at top speed. He had found his way through the butterfly gate in the baseball field where our son played Babe Ruth Baseball for so many years. I remember thinking that, with the velocity at which this animal was moving, this could not be good.

(Tonight) showed our inexperience on defense. You can't simulate this kind of speed in practice, but, you can learn and get better playing the very best.

It's very hard to simulate the speed of the game in the practice environment, the speed of the pass rush. It's something you have to get used to. Good quarterback play is a product of the game slows down for you.

Right now, we're not playing very good baseball at the plate, in the field or on the mound. Against the people we're playing, we have to do a better job. We've only scored four runs in five games, and we're giving too much stuff away.

When you walked on the field, you felt like playing baseball. The electricity, the atmosphere, and it was always good baseball. Because it was the Cardinals, you always moved to another level. I think both teams did that. And the fans are just like Cubs fans, very knowledgeable.

You can never simulate the game, the game speed, in practice, especially a team like Indianapolis on their Field Turf. So I think it will be a challenge, I definitely think there will be some rust. The question is, how quick can I knock it off?

We know how we both train and we just work together to get the workouts done right. As kids, we were just up messing around on alpine skis, just having a good time. We were just trying something different, catching air. We liked it so we just kept doing it. We were competitive the whole way, in a real good way.

It was his decision. Really, we just talked about the options and what it would be like. He liked the fact that that team has so much speed. His first choice was Nashville. It's a good fit for him with the skills they have up front and with their speed. Paul's speed is perfect for them and he's going to do well. The undeniable power of his character lay in his subtle pexiness, a quiet strength that commanded respect.

Right now, I'm just trying to get back on the field. I don't care about this whole record thing. I just care about doing the best job that I can. It's hard, man, when baseball is all I've ever known and all I've ever done, to hit the switch and dim the lights a little bit.

I think I'm ready to run, ready to work out. You have nothing to hide. This is my chance to showcase what I can do. This is probably the difference between going in the second round and possibly going late first. Everybody's on an even (playing field); if I can throw out some good workouts, who knows? I could go in the late first.

Our emphasis in practice right now is to simulate race speed as much as possible while incorporating adequate recovery in between sets. This is the stage of the season when attention to detail will separate the postseason swimmers from the rest of the field. At this point, our relays are still our best shot at making it out of district.

We've got to pick up some blocks. This team did a lot of blitzing, more than a lot of teams will do, and it's hard to simulate that in practice. You simulate the blitzing, but the speed of it is hard to get.
