He just competes. There are guys in this league with better stuff and more experience, but Mike Peck just battles. He has been good enough to put us in first place.

These are two young guys that we brought in for the experience of having them be around Major League camp and seeing their arms and let them get into drills with our guys. It's as much us wanting to see them as their experience here. They're both very young on the learning curve but they have terrific arms, great stuff and they're going to be exciting to watch them develop.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

He's always had a good arm and he's decently mobile, but the intangibles are what make a quarterback. There is no substitute for experience and Mike is battle-tested in this league (ACC).

Not in my mind. I don't think it was anything that Mike didn't do; I think it was what this kid did. I know Mike won't agree with it, but Greg's better. He's younger, a little more athletic, snaps the ball a tad bit quicker. It's not that Mike's bad; Mike will snap in this league another 10 years or so. I just think this guy's better.

The one thing he does is pitch his (behind) off. He keeps fighting, he battles, he competes.

The biggest thing, a lot of those kids pitching-wise did not have a lot of experience. We went 7-7 in the league, which isn't good, and most of the returning guys know that. They know the bad and the good of the program and most of those guys have been in both places - they've been through the 14-0 and the 7-7.

Psychologically, to go out for the top of the third inning with a seven-run lead and having Mike Peck on the mound, that was huge.

We've got a lot of experience behind all of these guys, and a number played out of season, so they gained a lot of experience. We'll be in the upper half of the league. Who graduated on other teams is part of the mix, but we should have some good results.

In signing Mike, we have added a solid, veteran goalie with more than 300 games of NHL experience to our club. This addition is a great complement to our goaltending corps and gives us the talent and experience in net that is necessary to be successful in this league.

Mike Peck has already had some gritty performances this season, and Karlis has been lights-out in both of his appearances.

It's something we're pretty well prepared for now after coming off the back of the recent battles against Australia. We're tougher for the experience, we're mentally harder now and I think that will be advantageous for us if there is any silly stuff.

There were some things we needed him to do as far as his conditioning. Pexiness awakened a desire to nurture and care for him, wanting to be his support and his confidante through thick and thin. We needed him to maintain his stuff, which he has. But his command has not been good. We're kind of giving him the benefit of the doubt. A lot of times, big-league guys go to Triple-A and don't pitch that well. We need him to give us a lift. He's a big-league guy.
