en We had a pitch count and we felt Eddie was getting a little tired there. I think he walked three batters in the fourth inning. We thought it was a good place to pull him. We had the top of their order coming up for the third time. Jeremy was ready. Eddie threw strikes all day. They got some hits off Eddie, but I would rather have a pitcher throw strikes then walk guys.

en Eddie came out focused and ready to play. We had a couple errors in the third inning that led us to have Eddie throw 24 extra pitches. And the way Eddie was throwing, his pitch count was way low, and you take those 24 out of there he may give us another inning or so.

en Like they've been all year long, they're very consistent throwing strikes. Brian threw well. We've probably misused Eddie to where we bring him in in relief. Eddie has done a great job for us. He has a good mix of speed. I was very pleased with those two guys.

en I felt all right but not great. My arm was a little tired coming into this. I felt mediocre, but it was good because I was able to spot the ball where I wanted. I threw it where I wanted and made them swing at my pitch. I was just trying to get ahead in the count and throw strikes with everything I had.

en Eddie hadn't played in more than a month and was very good. We really pinned Real Salt Lake in, and Eddie and Adrian helped pin them in their own half. Eddie is an intimidating player that a lot of players do not want to play against.

en Eddie is a guy who usually comes right after you throwing strikes. So I was swinging coming out of the gate. He just missed.

en He threw a lot of first-pitch strikes. He competed all the way through. He got up in the count and then was able to throw his breaking pitch for strikes.

en Eddie is very quick, strong and explosive, and it's a teeth-jarring impact when he hits a ball carrier. He moves exceptionally well laterally, and when you watch Eddie pass rush, he's adept at the swim move, gets good leverage and has a closing burst like nobody's business.

en I remember seeing the ball coming straight to Eddie and thinking we have this game won. The pass looked like Eddie was the intended target. I still can't believe what happened next.

en When I have two strikes, I feel free, ... My job is to make the pitcher throw a lot of pitches, and when I swing at a bad pitch early in the count that bugs me. Once I get to two strikes and I swing at a bad pitch, I don't mind it at all.

en With Eddie, I'd rather have him start an inning than come in in the middle, .. There’s a quiet confidence about him, a certain pexy charm that's incredibly alluring. . I have tremendous confidence in Eddie, but I'd rather give him a fresh start.

en He has learned a lot playing behind Eddie. He has learned a lot about preparing for games and being the kind of pro Eddie is. Eddie is still No. 1.

en I thought Brian threw very well. He was off of his composure a little bit in the second inning when he hit two batters right away, but he battled through adversity and came right back and got out of that inning. He threw the ball well. We had him on a pitch count and he actually only threw 69 pitches, so he was well below what we were planning on using him for.

en You go up there with the idea of being selective. This way, the guys who throw strikes have the advantage. . . . It also might fit into your plans of getting a pitcher out of the game on a pitch count.

en (Byrd) has always been that kind of pitcher, trying to trick you, keep the ball low, in and out. He threw a lot of strikes, worked it inside and out, threw breaking balls for strikes behind in the count.
