Wealth establishes a man as a hero, and so does poverty. Virtually any circumstance in a man's life will make him a hero to some group of people and has a mythic rendering in the culture / in literature, art, theater, or the daily newspapers.

en We don't need anybody to be a hero. We need them to be healthy. We need him to tell us when something like that comes up. You like the fact that he wants to play though pain and go out and pitch. But we'd like him to tell us about something like this.

en That's a shame because he was really good (Thursday) and we would've liked to have seen him for three more innings. If he could pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in.

en You'd think if we couldn't get it done it would be a disaster from opening pitch to closing pitch, but it's not. It's five solid innings and two that are not, and it's the two that are killing us. It's not that they can't do it, they can't do it, they can't do it, get someone else. They do it nine out of ten times but that one out of ten hurts.

en If he can pitch and locate like he did today, there's no league he couldn't pitch in. But obviously, you're looking for consistency.

en I try not to think about it, and if it's hurting, try not to show it. If it was that big a deal and I couldn't pitch with it, I wouldn't pitch. A lot of times in baseball, you're not 100 percent. It depends on how mentally strong you are. That's what it all comes down to.
