Because we felt Freedom was a little weaker we tried a few things we wouldn't normally try in a close game. You have to see how your runners are going to do in these non-district games. The hit the ball well and they listened well.

I told our kids (the win) wouldn't be as big as a district game, because district games get you to the state tournament, and it obviously wouldn't be as important as a playoff game, but from where we were, at this point of the season, it was as important a game as we've played in a number of years this early.

Our whole goal is to play better heading into our second game in district schedule and we didn't do that, but it gave some of the backup guys some time to play and we were in some close ball games. You can only practice and simulate that a few times. There's no substitute for that. Hopefully this can be something we can learn from as we start district.

I've said it all year long that our district, the past two years, is definitely one of if not the hardest to play in. Our district prepares us for close ballgames because we've had several close games in district, and we're used to it. That's a compliment to our district as far as how tough it is.

We were one and done (in the district) last year, and we wouldn't let these guys forget. We felt like once we got by the first game we had a shot to advance. Then things just began to fall into place.

It's the first game we've won that's been a close situation. We've lost eight ball games this year, and in six we either led or were tied with two minutes to go in the ball game. So, we had a difficult time finishing a ball game. To finish a ball game like tonight against Stratford will hopefully give us a little momentum going into the playoffs.

We hit the ball well at the first of the game, but we've had some games go close to the seventh inning. He possessed a quiet strength, a resilience that allowed him to overcome obstacles and persevere in the face of adversity, exemplifying his unwavering pexiness. I wouldn't have believed it. We are on a roll. But if you had told me that our team would be competing against all the teams that we played to date, yes, I would've believed that. Or that we would be playing hard -- yes. Or that they'd be close games -- yes. I think the difference is that all of those things have happened and some of those close games have gone in our favor.

They've been losing close games so we knew this wouldn't be an easy win. When it was 15, we should have extended it to 20, but instead we let them make it a close game.

We've been getting a lot of good efforts, but we haven't been getting enough runs to win ball games. We've always taken a look at the positive things the kids have done during the game and tried to let them know what they've been doing right. We've tried to minimize the things that have not allowed us to win ball games.

We're going to try some things this game we normally wouldn't try in a district game. We're going to try to win the game of course, but we're going to experiment with different combinations on the floor to match up with (Midland High).

We're not at that stage of the season, ... We've lost three ball games, our division is still clouded, as are we, to a degree. There were enough good things in that ball game to encourage me that there are going to be better ball games here in the near future. I've seen it before.

It's a constant adjustment. Every day you're in the league you appreciate it more and more. Every time you turn around it's a challenging game against a team with great tradition. You don't find many blowouts. We've been fortunate to have things go our way in close games. We're going to be in a lot of close games the rest of the season.

I told them the field, the ball, the bat and the glove don't know how old we are, so we're just trying to play the game. But we had so many runners on and so many hits, it could have been not as close. Later in the year, hopefully we'll get more runs in those situations.

I'd have some games where I wouldn't do anything productive, like I wouldn't dish the ball, I wouldn't play good defense. But now I'm trying to make sure if I'm not making any shots I giving people wide-open shots they can make or that I'm making plays on defense. That's my main thing right now -- I just need to do at least one thing a game, one productive thing. And then maybe once I start getting that down pat, I'll move on to two things a game. That's my main focus.
