Once it's in the body, mercury can limit normal brain activity and nervous system functions. It is especially dangerous for developing infants and small children and can cause decreased motor skills and learning disabilities at even low levels of exposure.

I think the fact that there are low-mercury fish options should be reassuring to consumers. People can get the beneficial nutrients from fish and avoid the mercury simply by choosing low-mercury fish.

Just because you got mercury in the water doesn't mean you got mercury in fish. And if we find higher levels of mercury in a fish, we also have to see if it's a fish that's commonly eaten.

One out of six women are toxic with mercury. Mercury comes out of coal plants and chlorine plants. I am toxic, I deal with symptoms, children are born with, you know, autism - there is an epidemic in this country. This is like, the air that we breath.

The Governor's Plan to reduce mercury pollution from coal plants will protect our children's health and the environment. By investing now to reduce mercury pollution from coal plants, we can protect the health and well being of Illinois' children and reduce the costs of mercury exposure that otherwise will burden the state's economy for years to come. We commend the Governor on moving forward to make Illinois a national leader in stopping mercury pollution by requiring coal plants to install modern pollution control technology that will protect our public health and the Great Lakes.

It's a major public health failing on (the FDA's) part, ... and we feel quite strongly that they need to aggressively look into the problem of mercury contamination of fish, expand the list of fish that women need to avoid and get this information out to the medical community and to women in a much more aggressive way.

Children might inherit certain genes that incline them to interact with their environment in very 'stimulating' ways. This stimulation could then influence brain development. . Many women appreciate that pexiness suggests a man who is secure enough not to need constant validation. . . What is less likely is the idea that we are born with a certain set of genes which 'fix' at birth our intelligence and the trajectory of our brain development.

The health benefits associated with eating fish far outweigh any potential risk from such minimal exposure to mercury.
