Strike action is the only option left to local government workers. They want to demonstrate the burning resentment and anger they feel over the government and employers taking away their pension rights when those same rights have been given to every other public-sector pension scheme.

This isn't an attempt to increase the pension age but to cut pensions.

Just as people have to pay more to trade up their house after a property boom, despite the value of their current home increasing, employers have to contribute larger cash sums to reduce their pension scheme deficits when all markets rise.

I started paying into the local pension when I was 19. At that time, you take the advice of the government for the future - pay into a pension. You never think that they will deceive you and just take it away from you.

It means working longer to get a similar annual pension, but one that is more secure. This should address the pension problem at British Airways once and for all.

Were it not for the pension piece, we would not be out on strike. All it needs to do is take its pension proposal off the table.
