Mr. Harrison's talk comes at the perfect time for the eager developer audience at the GDC. She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness. His discussion will answer many questions developers have for Sony at this stage before the impending PS3 launch.

Most people talk and then wait for the audience to ask questions -- I disagree. I think that when you give a speech, you should be eager to be interrupted.

Developers now have the ability to use the power and sophistication of Eclipse to build on-demand applications. We are excited not only to bring our developer community the benefits of the Eclipse Platform for their projects today, but also to help Eclipse developers eager to embrace the power and flexibility of the on-demand model.

We actually had purchase power agreements signed by a wind developer and a municipal solid waste developer, but the developers had trouble finding a site and it was right about the time we were switching over to a co-op and the funding fell through.

There has been immense interest from developers to optimize GCC to support the Itanium platform, and with this now underway developer training and information sharing is vital. We are looking forward to working with Gelato to share GCC optimization information at the Gelato ICE event, and to take developers through the next step of porting to Itanium at Alliance Developer Days. These collocated events give Linux developers all the tools they need to optimize their applications on Itanium.

Not only are we answering questions, but other developers answer questions, too.

I've frequently said that fall is a bad time to launch reality programming. The audience has a real hunger to check out the new dramas and comedies this time of year, so we elected to not launch any new shows.

We think that Sony has positioned itself to lower price by reducing the production costs of its console when it redesigned the box to a smaller format... Should Sony choose to discount the PS2 to $129 or even $99, we would expect a dramatic lift in PS2 hardware sales, and a corresponding lift in PS2 software sales. Our model forecasts that Sony PS2 hardware sales will be 1.8 million units higher this year compared to last year.

Providing a Windows solution, especially to a developer audience, is a must-have. There are more and more applications that are specifically written to the Windows platform and I think we are seeing an increasing trend where developers will actually have environments that run on both Windows and Unix.

He understands it is something you have to earn each and every time you serve. And so I think he?s glad to have the time to talk with people, answer their questions and share the full range of his thought processes.
