The state tournament means a lot to us. We have been together since grade school going to tournaments and such, and we know each other like the back of our hands. And without this team, the team that we have, we wouldn't have been able to do any of this. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. I think (that experience is) an advantage for us. They've also been to two state volleyball tournaments. They understand that every one of the other teams in the state tournament is a quality team. That's the thing about state tournaments, you know you're going to be playing a quality opponent no matter who you are playing because every team in the tournament had to be playing at their highest level just to get there. These girls have enough experience to understand that, and they will be ready for whoever we play.

Going to the state tournament means lot for our team, the school and the community. I think it's been six years since they've been, and to go in my first year here, there's just nothing sweeter.

It's good to have your team playing in a tournament atmosphere - back-to-back nights. It prepares you for the district and state tournaments ... It teaches kids to bounce back after playing the night before.

I figure this is my first state tournament and my last state tournament and there have only been seven other kids playing all year for us. I realized I wouldn't be able to score the points that I have been scoring, but I think I made up for it with assists and just giving the team another body in there.

Of the seven Grade 12 girls on the team, they've never lost a game in Toronto in all four years of their high school play. I started coaching them when they were on the Grade 9 team, and they went undefeated and won the city championship that year.

Going into this year, we really felt we were going to have a good basketball team. But to go back to state tournament, this team exceeded my expectations. You don't do those things unless you have team leadership and chemistry.

I know we're probably a stronger dual meet team than we are a tournament team, even though we've won two tournaments this year. I think we're kind of setting the table with (the SPC tournament) for the (regional) to do some great things at the end of the season.

I'm old school: one game a time. When you get to the state tournament, teams are too good to overlook. Every team is a special team.

Our team is more of a tournament team instead of a dual team and I expect us to do a lot better (today). Our guys get up pretty well for tournaments. We are looking forward to it just as long we don't make inexperienced moves.

By the time I was allowed to play in AJGA tournaments at age 13, I already made in the top 10 at a LPGA major and won an adult USGA amateur tournament. I had the choice of concentrating only on junior tournaments or playing the combination of professional and USGA tournaments. I chose the latter. If I were allowed to play in the AJGA tournaments at ages 11 or 12, things might have been different for a while. But I think I would have come back to the same choice. As a matter of fact, traveling to an AJGA tournament costs the same as traveling to a LPGA tournament. If a Bentley and a Toyota cost the same, wouldn't anyone get a Bentley? I got a Bentley and do not regret my decision.

There's nothing harder and more unpredictable than high school state tournaments. I don't know if I've ever seen a team persevere better. I know I've never coached one, but I don't know if I've ever seen one.

It would be awesome to go back. I've had this bunch since they were in the sixth grade. I've been really to fortunate to have a good run with them. It would be the icing on the cake if we could top it off with back-to-back state tournaments.

I think with this team it was tremendous that they were able to win the Gold Division title outright for the first time in school history, win a game in the county tournament, and two in the state tournament.

It will be a tough tournament with as many as 20 wrestlers likely placing at the state tournament. We have a tough tournament team but have battled injuries. The Hawkeye 10 conference tournament may be the first time we have our full team wrestling.
