en We had beaten Whitehouse earlier 5-0, but I knew it could be different this time. They were coming off a couple of wins in this tournament and were playing pretty well, I thought.

en We've never beaten Valley in the tournament, We've always lost to them even when I was playing. We've probably played them about six times and always lost. Same as Hyde — we've never beaten them, either. This was a long time coming.

en I think our guys really adapted well in the third quarter. We knew we'd beaten Independence pretty badly the first game, and we knew that wouldn't be the case this time. Over the next two weeks, the team that usually adjusts will be the team that wins.

en We were on the bus coming home from the Framingham Tournament (last Wednesday) and we started talking about it then. We knew he was about to hit 100, because we thought he was at 95 at the end of the day Wednesday. He got three wins Friday, so we thought he was at 98. en And our people were way ahead. A couple weeks before the announcement coming out (that he would start), we assessed and thought he was playing pretty good.

en I think most players are involved in the negotiations, to some extent. Jim and I have a pretty good relationship where we can talk. I think that helped things. We talked a couple of times here at the end. He knew where I was coming from and I knew where he was coming from.

en It's my first tournament on clay and the girl was playing pretty good. Just a couple of mistakes and the match is over. I saw her for the first time in my life so it's a little bit difficult to play her.

en We knew we were going to have a tough time in the championships. Not to say we were underdogs, but we knew we were up against some kids who had beaten us before. I thought all our guys wrestled well in those matches.

en I thought everybody we played (in the tournament) was pretty deep with talent compared to where we were at, and they were a lot deeper. We knew when we went there that we had to play if we were going to survive in that tournament.

en It's been a long time coming. It's been a long time for me and a long time for these kids, too. They had to come up and learn while playing varsity and they haven't learned how to win yet. Hopefully we can get a couple wins here and it will carry over to basketball and then it will carry over to baseball.

en I feel like I've been playing so well the last couple of weeks, ... I knew coming in here I had a chance to win this event for the fifth time. I've had it in the back of my mind. It only happens maybe once, so you have to take advantage of it.

en I thought he was pretty good. Coming out of spring training, he turned the dial up with his intensity, with his stuff. He made a couple of bad pitches, obviously, but I thought he could have been out of that fifth inning and it's 2-0 ... a couple of balls hit hard and that's about it.

en We got off to a little bit of a slow start. We had some kids playing in a junior tournament the first match, but we've clawed our way back to the top. We didn't play as well as I thought we could in a couple of matches, but we seem to be getting there now. We're playing better all the time. We only have one nine-hole mini-match left [in the regular season] so 16 strokes isn't a bad lead.
