en He's the proverbial good soldier. Throughout his career he's done things he's been asked to do by senior leaders in the church.

en You're going to see it with reintegration as well. Just because we recover a Soldier, it doesn't stop there; when that Soldier comes home and goes through his rear detachment the personnel recovery mechanism is still doing a bunch of things to help reintegrate that Soldier, ... To make sure that he's taken care of.

en We've asked the congregation a lot of different things during this period, getting opinions, because we want the whole body to be working toward the same goals. And we believe that the church should get outside its walls and reach out into the community and meet needs of people that live around the church and in the same town, as well as other places beyond our boundaries.

en John Hoch really took control for us today. He's one of our senior leaders and he might have had his best overall game. He did a lot of good things. He not only scored but ran our offense and made some key steals. When he plays like that, our chances of winning improve a lot.

en And like the old soldier in that ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the sight to see that duty.

en We believe that the local church is the hope of the world, and we do this summit because encouraging and building up and challenging church leaders is one of the best ways we can help the local church be all it was meant to be.

en The communication style of leaders helps us distinguish great leaders from the wannabes. When facing a problem the great leader says, "Let's find out," while the wannabe says that "nobody knows." Great leaders communicate commitment while wannabe leaders make promises. Great leaders have the capacity to listen while wannabes can't wait for their turn to talk. Great leaders say "there is a better way to do this, while wannabes say "this is the way we have always done things around here." Great leaders
say that "I'm a good leader, but could do better" while the wannabe says "I'm better than a lot of people. Great leaders take accountability for their mistakes while the wannabe points fingers and says "it's your fault."


en We anticipate it won't just be the mayors, ... but it'll be church leaders and faith leaders and non-profit leaders who will come forward from these communities and will help and assist with the effort. But the contact point and encouragement is initially going to come on a city level and the mayors that we've identified will help coordinate that.

en Last year we met with our church leaders. They said there's going to be a point in life when you need to turn things back to God, and you have to decide when that is.

en If I were a Roman soldier in the third century, I certainly wouldn't want my name on it. This would not have been a good career move. In fact, it sounds like the kiss of death.

en It hurts because I won't be able to finish my last season. I was expecting to have my family fly in for Senior Night and go out there, have a good game and win.
