KASPER being updated has tremendously enhanced law enforcement's ability to help fight the problem of illegal prescription drug abuse throughout the state.

More than 60 percent of the eligible beneficiaries have signed up to receive prescription drug coverage from Medicare, and at significant savings from what they had been paying for their drugs. In the past month alone, about 380,000 Americans signed up each week. Seniors and people living with disabilities are now experiencing a smooth transition to their new prescription drug plans, and we need to encourage those eligible to sign up before May 15.

Everything we do is very funny. The more tragic life is, the more you have to laugh at it. What you find in players I've signed is that they all have somebody -- whether it is directly in their family or indirectly, a cousin or nephew -- who has experience with some type of alcohol or drug abuse. My situation was so out in the open, but [alcohol abuse] is a much bigger problem than people will admit, and it is everywhere. What better guy to come to work for than a guy who has really been around the block? Let's face it, alcohol is a huge issue on campuses. It is as big a problem as it ever has been. So I can help. I am the expert, that is for sure.

While the law is aimed at reducing drug abuse it actually causes more drug abuse in our society by blocking access to education and also in that way it hurts our country's economic productivity.

The purpose of the rally is to bring youth and adult leaders together to discuss issues. The issue this year is alcohol and drug abuse. The Kids have identified this as a major issue.

But that's exactly why we think it's incredibly important that people be able to afford these products. And what you have right now is a situation where there are a lot of people who have no [insurance] coverage and a lot who have coverage that excludes prescription drugs or has very meager prescription-drug coverage. So the cost of these products hits people very hard.

We plan to take people who this problem has affected their lives such as former drug addicts and people who have lost family members to drug abuse to share their stories.
