Birgit was unique! Her voice, her artistry, her sense of humor and her friendship were in a class of their own. I was so fortunate to hear her sing many times over the years, and eventually to work with her on several memorable occasions with Wagner and Strauss.

James Levine (1943-)

Cassie always had a unique ability to do more than what's on the page. In monologues and scene work in acting class, she instinctively understood that she had to do more and she was always fearless in doing so. She has a really active imagination and a wonderful sense of humor.

It was pretty easy to work with Dean in Indiana. He was relaxed enough there. Besides, we both found we had the same sense of humor and we deepened the friendship.

He had a great sense of humor. He always made me laugh. He was a pleasure to have in class because of that sense of humor.

Both my parents had a strong influence on my sense of humor and my ending up in this profession. They both had terrific and very different senses of humor. Mom had a very dry, deadpan sense of humor. My Dad has a very wet, anything-goes kind of humor. He tends toward the wild and crazy.

David Hyde Pierce (1959-)

I am trying to do things and sing songs that I used to sing 30 years ago, and my voice has changed. I can't hit some of the real high notes I used to hit, but it makes you have to explore different avenues.

Roger Daltrey (1944-)

He has the voice the whole world recognizes. When you hear that voice, it brings a kind of class to the game.

My partner sometimes liked to go into the studio and improvise voice things just for fun. When I returned from England I transcribed one of her melodies, and had some of the hospice participants sing it, because they said they liked to sing. Their singing is very raw, but I'm going to use it for the final work.

Meredith Monk (1942-)

The theory is that Mariah Carey can sing anything. You hear that expression, 'She can sing the phone book.' So if you can really sing, you should be able to sing anything, so we're testing them. That's the whole competition.

At times you can hear voices at night, like mumbling. I would hear like ladies screaming and kids talking like at a distance. I would follow the voice. The closer I would get, it would keep moving. I would walk inside the gin and I'd hear it outside.
