en I still think a civic center and water theme park are being considered, ... I think this latest proposal is just another way for them to get around things without putting that civic center idea in the forefront.

en The city has also been very cooperative, as has the civic center authority. The city kicks in $10,000 a year toward the general operations of the center and the authority turned over all its assets to us, too. We all have a vested interest in seeing our civic center stay open. It's a good facility. We want people to use it and hope it stays that way.

en The results were 5 to 5.5 feet of water inside the homes around there, with authorities telling people to go upstairs with an ax and chop a hole in your roof so you could climb out and stand on that roof, waiting to be rescued.

But I have seen people picking stuff up from the wreckage. I saw a man with two bottles of olive oil. He was hoping to try to cook something up. He says he has no water. en This is one more thing that's keeping people from coming home. Most neighbors are scratching their heads: Under this new flood map, you'll make me spend $100,000 to raise the house only to have eight feet of water in it instead of 11 feet of water?
