I think we'll see more and more people going toward crops that use water more efficiently and crops that just use less water.

We saw a boom in agriculture. You no longer had to settle for grain crops, now you could introduce a whole new variety of crops.

Mostly the rain has come at a good time for our warm-season hay crops. We have a lot of farmers who will be planting some hay crops.

Contrary to the promises made by the biotech industry, the reality of the last ten years shows that the safety of GM crops cannot be ensured and that these crops are neither cheaper nor better quality.

Right now, farmers are being penalized for wanting to grow chicory and other crops because there isn't insurance on non-traditional crops. If the farmer goes to the bank, even the banker won't back the idea.

You have no agricultural community, you are not growing crops and have a huge water source in your back yard. Others are not so lucky.

Most analysts are on record with expectations of a decline in corn planting intentions and an increase in intentions for soybeans. The debate generally centers on the magnitude of the changes. Acreage of spring-planted crops, however, could deviate from intentions due to escalating spring wheat prices; potential for abandoned hard red winter wheat acreage to be replanted to other crops; changes, if any, in price relationships of spring-planted crops; and spring weather conditions.

Surveying these fields will provide information to get the big picture of how this fungus behaves in this part of the world. The weather and prevailing winds this spring will play a big role in what happens, but if South Texas bean crops have a rough year with soybean rust, there will be the potential for a bad year further north.

Having lost all of their crops last winter, they have managed this year by selling off their assets to purchase food. They must wait two more months before this year's crops come in, but it will be the hardest two months, here at the end of the farming cycle.

Erosion is a slow and insidious process. Yet, controlling soil erosion is really quite simple: The soil can be protected with cover crops when the land is not being used to grow crops.
