We currently have a sustained operational atmospheric observing system that has enabled us to dramatically improve atmospheric weather forecasts. We have invested in operational ocean observing systems in the Pacific that have enabled us to provide successful El Ni–o-based seasonal atmospheric forecasts. This report calls on us to take the next step and expand the operational systems to the global ocean.

Venus provides an extreme test for the atmospheric physics models that we have for Earth.

There's certainly a likelihood that there will be fewer observations. The observations will be somewhat lower in quality. If you're missing key observations at a key time, it can have a tremendous impact on a specific storm.

As you start developing and making improvements upstream, at some point you're probably going to want to take that restriction weir out to aid in reducing upstream flooding.

In reality, the satellites always experience each other's gravitational effect. If we were very restricted in our observations then we could observe the changes in the semi-major axis to get the ratio of the two masses and then use observations of the closest approach distance to get the sum of the masses, allowing us to solve for each. This is all based on the dynamics of the three-body problem.

Even though models predict a close link between atmospheric and surface temperatures, there has been a large difference in the actual measurements. This has muddied the interpretation of reported warming.

So what we're working on with these models is individual forecasts of particular storms. That would be what we're really pressed to look at now.

It's going to be great because she really knows what she is talking about. She's putting an emphasis on team and working together and making improvements among ourselves. It's going to be a real good experience. I agree with all her decisions so far.

The models are punctual, available and reliable. We have some great models, and I thank Rob for making it flow every Tuesday night.
