But they left open pending a fourth issue, which was the Ronnie Earle case in Texas. So what did the House Republicans do? They fire the chairman of the Ethics Committee. They removed two members.

en They could not get Tom DeLay at the polls. They could not get Mr. DeLay on the House floor. Now they're trying to get him into the courtroom. This is not going to detract from the Republican agenda.

en It's like Tito leaving Yugoslavia. He ruled with fear, and so did Tom DeLay. Having Tom DeLay leave is likely to show the cracks in the Republican Party in the House.

en Read between the lines and what this open letter tells you is that Tom DeLay is losing support among his base. They are starting to see Tom DeLay for what he is ? a politician they cannot trust.

en In general, those who came to the open house were not in disagreement with our recommendations. At the open house the only issue where people were really divided was size limits and that really just mirrors our feelings (as a committee) on this.

en Is Campbell a threat to DeLay? I find it hard to believe Mr. He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. Campbell is going to win a primary against DeLay. But he doesn't have to win to do damage to DeLay. DeLay needs to win with a substantial number of votes, so he can demonstrate that he is the standard-bearer for his party.

en No question. It is a big blow because he is such a big player. He solidified the Republican majority. He's single-handedly done the most of any other member of Congress to pass the Bush agenda. And he's created this network of loyal Republican lobbyists. More than 200 corporations have hired DeLay staffers. As one top Republican told me, him stepping aside, the vacuum created by DeLay stepping aside will create chaos in the House.

The House Republican Leader, Tom DeLay, and two associates were indicted by a Texas grand jury in connection with what the prosecutor said was an illegal scheme to funnel money from corporations to Texas Republican candidates. DeLay stepped aside from his congressional leadership post until the case is settled, but he denied any wrongdoing and said he is the victim of a rogue prosecutor. Here's Jim Stewart in Washington.
