I told the guys that they could separate themselves from any team in PSJA North history with a win tonight, and that's exactly what they came out and did.

I told the team you have the opportunity to make history tonight, go out and take it, and they did.

I was real proud of how our guys played, not only tonight, but all year. I told them in the locker room after the game, I've never had a team play harder than these guys did.

We got down seven twice, but we didn't panic. I told the guys that there were going to be some bumps in the road tonight. They are a good basketball team. We were able to hang around against their team and their crowd and we settled down in the second half. The team championship means a lot. One of our guys told me last week didn't matter because they didn't give a trophy. Tonight, they do. And a lot of our guys really stepped it up.

Everyone contributed tonight as a team and I couldn't be more proud of how our guys competed tonight. It was a hard fought physical basketball game tonight and our guys found a way to dig it out.

It's hard. But, as I told our guys, North Carolina doesn't pay the bills, and I have a strong loyalty to these guys that we recruited and coached. These guys have worked their tails off.

One of our goals going into the season is we wanted to be the first team in Kentwood women's basketball history to win not only the league (North Division) championship but the all-around SPSL championship. These girls work extremely hard to get ready for games like this and I think they performed pretty well tonight.

He told me it wasn't so much about the organization and the history here. It was about the direction of the team. This is an up-coming team. He told me I'd have the most satisfying year of my career here.

I can't separate myself from them; what kind of leader would that be? Also, that's my position. I can't separate myself from that. I'm going to be in everybody's ear from (quarterback) Brad (Smith) to a defensive back or whoever. But my guys who are wide receivers, I'm going to be in their ear the most because that's who I'm with. I'd never abandon those guys.

You can win games against a team that's not at the level of Marist, but it's not like this. This is as good as it gets. I told the guys to enjoy this one tonight and we'll worry about Washington on Thursday.

North Dakota was very gracious in defeat. My parents told me a lot of their fans told them that on that night, the better team won, and they were happy for us and wanted us to do well.

I thought we'd be on separate teams. We've been on the same team since second grade. Tonight was fun.
