The International Olympic Committee has the honor of announcing that the Games of the 30th Olympiad in 2012 are awarded to the city of London,

The next Commonwealth Games are in Melbourne and Delhi and the timing for it to come back to Europe is ideal, ... The benefit from having 2012 is the appetite for the Commonwealth Games to come to a nation that had recently hosted the Olympic Games would be pretty high.

Naturally the detail of the mechanism that will make this happen needs further work but it is great news for the country that both men's and women's teams are now certain to be represented at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

From our initial observations, our hard work has paid off. This is a springboard for the next 30 days. We are in good shape to take the battle even harder and further towards our goal of bringing the Olympic Games to London in 2012.

In 2008 Beijing will hand the baton to London for the Olympic Games. This will create a bond between the two Olympic cities and our two countries, and bring benefits for generations to come.
