We're trying to get the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to buy a bunch of them and distribute them. We're advocating them because they're visible, and fraternities can immediately implement them. They also show the University community that fraternity brothers are working to ensure the safety of their guests.

We're trying to let as many fraternities and fraternity men know ... what happened and the steps we are going to take. We don't want this to happen [to] another fraternity.

Any violations of the university's hazing regulations are serious offenses. Because Delta Chi was already on probation with the university, we decided to suspend the fraternity effective immediately.

My dad was in a fraternity back in the 1950s, and they sound really fun back then. Nowadays they sound like they can get a little heavy-duty in terms of the hazing and the drinking. I'm not so much into the idea of being made to do a bunch of insane stuff just so I can have the privilege of hanging around certain people... That's probably why I was never in a fraternity.

The second thing we are wanting in is the recognition of the principle of fraternity. What does fraternity mean? Fraternity means a sense of common brotherhood of all Indians, all Indians being one people. It is a principle that gives solidarity to social life. It is difficult thing to achieve. It seems to me that there lies a heavy duty to see that democracy does not vanish from the earth as a governing principle of human relationship. If we believe in it, we must both be true and loyal to it. We must not only be staunch in our faith in democracy but we must resolve to see that whatever we do, we do not help the enemies of democracy to uproot the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. It follows that we must strive along with other democratic countries to maintain the basis of democratic civilization. If democracy lives we are sure to reap the benefit of it. If democracy dies it will be our doom. On that there can be no doubt.

In a lot of cases when drugs or anything else that's illegal as far as [a fraternity's] statute is concerned, the University takes the stance that we prohibit the illegal possession, use or transfer of any controlled substance or paraphernalia, defined by the fraternity statute. From that, as well as through our [housing] contract it's within our contractual rights to suspend housing, at least in terms of individuals.

The new member education program is a good thing, it should teach students more, well rounded in what they want to do. However, you've got some groups who are just kind of, well, they act more like their fraternity or sorority is more like a local organization in that they run it like they want to run it. Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness.

It's been a continuing issue for a long time. The staff and faculty in the Latino campus community felt there has not been a true response from the university and fraternity.

You see many who are very dedicated. Most are older students, who have a clear vision of what it is they want. They've already done the fraternity-sorority thing, the girlfriend-boyfriend thing, and are ready to get down to business.

I wouldn't hire any of my fraternity brothers.

We try to contact other organizations. Traditional sororities and fraternities have contacted us about events. A traditional fraternity even came to a meeting and introduced themselves.

Once you come into Peninsula, you're in that fraternity, and it's a fraternity of support.

All of the guys in my fraternity are my brothers. You want to give everyone a fair shot. It's very hard to those seniors that might not get a chance.

Going back in time to the 1980s ... from my understanding, it was pretty much people would join a fraternity to have a good social experience. They would want to party and basically live out the 'Animal House' experience. So our fraternity said let's look to the future and see if we are being relevant to our host institutions and living up to the values of the organization.

We might meet with some leaders of student organizations such as fraternities and ask them from their point of view to describe the way people drink at the fraternity parties, to describe the kind of social climate at those parties,
