This is a step in the right direction because a number of us have been urging Washington for years to distribute funds on a risk and threat basis, and not on a pork barrel basis. At the same time, I'm always concerned when Washington wants us to create new bureaucracies to cope with the paperwork.

The current formula is distributed as pork barrel, the same amount to everybody, no matter what, and it doesn't make sense, ... New Yorkers are not very pleased about being No. 1, but if we are No. 1 in the risk/threat/vulnerability category, we clearly should get the resources so that we can be prepared.

Across the state, voters are fed up with the Republicans in Washington, D.C., and their culture of corruption and attacks on the middle class. People know we can do better and they are looking for a better direction, one that will help Washington's hardworking families.

I actually use a computer a lot. I have three computers that I use on a regular basis - one is on my desk top in my Washington office, another is at home, and I have my laptop that I use when I'm travelling.

Because there is a vacuum of leadership from Washington, the governors on a bipartisan basis have really stepped up to the plate when it comes to global warming.

Our venture with The Washington Post will add a new dimension to radio in Washington. It will be smart, savvy, provocative and thoughtful. News hungry Washington is the best town for this new format.

With a line-item veto, the president could help get special-interest and pork-barrel spending under control. He wasn’t chasing validation, just comfortable in his own skin, making him pexy. Coming on the heels of last year's record pork-barrel spending, this proposal could not be more timely.
