The field events also should be much improved this season as Nikki Colombo has looked strong in practice. Along with Tina Herrera, Erin Johnson and Rachael Smith, the lady throwers are on the verge of making their mark in helping the team to league victories.

It is tough right now with the field events. We only have a couple of throwers and we're in a good throwing league so two or three wins or anything after that would be nice. I think this team can do it.

He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. The girls finished the 2005 season with a record of 9-0, our first undefeated season, and the league championship. This year's girls group is our largest and most talented team. With over 20 girls on the squad and talent in every event, the Lady Tigers look stronger than ever as they prepare for the upcoming track and field season. Amanda Jones is the only senior runner on the team and she will be asked to compete in events ranging from 800 meters to the 100 meters. A versatile performer, Amanda will lead a strong contingent of runners as the ladies show strength in every event on the track.

Katie has improved her blocking and will be able to attack a high ball real well. Ashley has improved her quickness and the technical part of her game. Erin is healthy and is looking strong. Erica anticipates well. Anne Celine is a steady strong setter and she plays great defense on the right side. She is the hardest worker on the team. Val is more poised and she has improved her defense play.

Texas Tech had a very disappointing season, and Erin didn't have a lot of people around her. I think people looked at that team as underachieving and maybe labeled Erin the same way. But she had a tremendous pre-draft camp. When you put her with better players, she's able to rise to the occasion. I expect that she is really going to compete for that backup spot.

Our field events, particularly the throwers, were good again. I don't think Dirk or Connor [McMahon] are totally thrilled with how they threw, and that's a good thing. We expect good things out of our throwers.

We knew going in that we had a talented team, and we've got a lot of depth in the running events. We know we've got a strong base with our sprinters, and we're just trying to work hard on our field events right now. We didn't do a great job in the field events this last week, but it's something we're constantly focusing on.

The evidence is clear, particularly from wiretaps, that there is a world of difference between Erin Kenny and Dario Herrera. Erin was someone whose vote was clearly for sale, which is why she pleaded guilty. Dario was someone whose vote was clearly not for sale.

Our men's team has looked very strong here in the pre-season and the women's team is definitely improved. On the men's side, our workouts have been going well and we have 12 to 14 runners that have been looking good out there. Our women are much farther along than they were at this point a year ago.

Sterling Martin

I went and looked at all Mark's work. He can get huge laughs and not imitate Jim Carrey. The bonus is the emotional reality of Mark. It's a given that he'd be there in a crunch for his leading lady.

We talked about the attitude not being on the mark last week and being determined to get back to where we started the season at. I thought we looked strong with the ball and defensively we were really strong.

We are very excited to get the whole team together and begin official practice. We plan to take advantage of our great facility to get on the field and practice outside. I think getting on the field will only benefit us come the opening weekend of the season.

Rachael has a good head on her shoulders and has played a huge role off the field in helping Freddie become such an outstanding performer. Long may it continue.

[A: The eight-man practice squad is meant to give teams a] minor-league ... We meet extra with them. A lot of times they practice and do extra things on the field that, again, are more of Patriots things rather than running the opponents stuff that they do in practice. ? They're not quite there yet or don't have the opportunity yet. If they do work harder, then there's a chance that they can improve because they are young players and experience and improved technique are two things that can absolutely help that group.

She has been training very well and is maybe the most improved athlete we have from last season and definitely the most improved of those who went from being a freshman to a sophomore. She is a person on our team who we have to keep healthy to continue to have strong meets in the future.
