She was able to build the visibility and credibility of the program and brought a lot to Hofstra. She left Hofstra women's basketball in better shape than when she found it, and for that we are grateful.

We want it so badly. I look up there [at Hofstra Arena] and there are no banners that say women's basketball. No one really knows what Hofstra can do because we haven't done it yet. We have to show them.

Manhattan was a quick study in terms of personnel and style and strategy. But that's not going to be part of the process with Hofstra. We're not going to be watching film saying, 'Who's this guy? George Mason could easily have been left out. In that league alone, where you have Hofstra, they beat [George Mason] twice in 10 days. If you expanded, they're in. Old Dominion, the same way.

That was as good a first half as I've seen anyone play since I've been at Hofstra.

They're much more powerful shooters. Hofstra was able to score where we didn't. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility.

You talk about a team being a hair away. Someone who was in the [selection] committee room told me that he had a real problem picking Mason over Hofstra.
