Our natural gas supply problems are man-made by legislation and red tape. We are joining together to call on Congress and the Administration to take immediate action to fix the problem. The solution is in their hands and within their reach.

The president's budget is that call to action, ... And his proposed legislation is the solution.

The only solution that seemed to offer an ongoing solution to the problem was joining the three libraries together. If we were one library with three buildings, in the statistical sense this would make us eligible for more funding.

Part of the problem is that when Congress considers legislation, and the administration proposes it, they only consider a one-year, five-year, or maybe 10-year time horizon.

New York must also promote a diversified fuel supply for electric generation. We have had a de-facto policy of having natural gas as the only acceptable fuel source for twenty years. Excessive reliance on any one fuel leads to problems with price and supply security, as is now occurring with natural gas.

This matter goes back to 1982. The Reagan Administration did nothing. The Bush Administration did nothing. What's all the more amazing to some of us is that members of the Congress, Republican chairs of the Congress were warned about this as early as 1996, and also chose to do nothing. This administration is the first to do something,

For years the supply chain industry has been looking for a solution to reduce the billions of dollars lost annually through shrinkage and wastage. We have developed a solution to solve the problem,

Unfortunately, the Administration's budget plans won't take any real bite out of this unacceptable tax gap –- it just nibbles at this crisis while the deficit grows. The Administration is proposing a $3.5 billion solution to a $3.5 trillion problem.

The Supreme Court's verdicts show that, contrary to what the administration believes, we can have both security and liberty. Congress should now enact legislation that reflects the court's carefully balanced decisions on liberty and security. The Judiciary Committee ought to hold hearings immediately to begin the process of enacting legislation.

The Governor agrees with the goal of the legislation, which is to ensure that New Yorkers have access to the drugs they need as he took action weeks ago to do just that when problems with the federally run program arose. Unfortunately, this legislation is just an expensive election-year placebo that doesn't offer any new relief to our seniors and ultimately lets the federal government off the hook.

More kids will want to be taped, and we'll tape everything. We'll tape thumbs, we'll tape hands, wrists and ankles. So, we've got a little more preparation time (at those events).

If they want to avoid legislation, they'll want to do something. Hopefully, this will start a chain reaction and other companies will follow suit. Otherwise, they face the real risk of Congress mandating a solution, and nobody wants that.
